People Helping People Project

Earth and Sun Sustainable Builders joined with People Helping People to lead a relief project in Nepal after the earthquakes of 2013. earthbag buildings had been the ones that withstood the quakes best, so those were the ones most desired in the rebuilding. The locals —  resilient, beautiful Nepalese worked along side the visitors who showed up to help rebuild.

The Bisbee Project is an off-grid, passive solar, earthbag home in its 3rd winter-spring season. It's a personal project that we work on during the winter months in Arizona. Since the end of March 2017, we have finished both bedrooms, a functioning shower, and will soon have a functioning kitchen. This year, we broke ground on the south living room addition and will have it shelled in by mid April. By next spring, the main house will be completely finished. We are very pleased with the performance and aesthetics of this home.

EARTHSHIP STYLE PROJECTS

ADOBE HOME

Earth and Sun Sustainable Builders has its roots in earthship type building. Rammed earth tire work, domes, are one way to creatively venture into off-grid living.

Adobe (earth) block building is a tradition in New Mexico where this project took place. Earth and Sun Sustainable Builders built Rebecca's adobe home. She wanted to be hands-on building her house, so she became part of the crew. We incorporated adobe brick work with an upstairs loft which is is mainly wood frame. The outside of the house is modern stucco. On the inside, we did a beautiful adobe floor.

OM FIELD PROJECTS

Earth and Sun Sustainable Builders has worked hand-in-hand with Om Field in Oregon, building off-grid sustainable structures such as tire, strawbail, and earthbag for the spiritual community. omfield.org
